IRP Registration

Operate in multiple jurisdictions with home state registration: IRP advantage.

The IRP (International Registration Plan) registration offers carriers a unique advantage by allowing them to operate in multiple jurisdictions while being registered solely in their home state. This streamlined process facilitates legal engagement in interstate commerce without the hassle of multiple registrations. With just one specially marked license plate, labeled as "Apportioned," "APP," or "PRP," and a cab card enumerating the authorized jurisdictions and weight limits, carriers can transport passengers or goods across state lines effortlessly.

Apportionable Vehicles, within the contiguous United States and Canadian provinces, fall under this registration. These vehicles are primarily designed for commercial purposes and meet specific criteria, such as having two axles with a gross vehicle weight, registered gross vehicle weight, or gross combination weight exceeding 26,000 pounds (12,000 kg). Exceptions to this category include recreational vehicles, vehicles with restricted plates, chartered party buses, and government-owned vehicles.

To maintain compliance, carriers must renew their IRP registrations annually based on the mileage covered in each jurisdiction. In cases where a recently purchased truck lacks sufficient mileage records, estimated miles will be considered for the required period.
